Laminate. A printed sheet pressed onto the board. Repairable, hides wear, ages well. It is unfairly looked down on and it is the right answer for most Hyderabad homes.

PU. A sprayed paint finish, available in matte or gloss. Seamless and rich, and the colour range is effectively unlimited. It chips at edges and cannot be spot repaired without redoing the shutter.

Acrylic. A high gloss sheet bonded to the board. Hard, mirror like, shows every fingerprint and every wipe mark. Beautiful in photos, demanding in a home that cooks daily.

Membrane. A thin PVC film vacuum pressed over a routed MDF shutter, wrapping around the edges so there are no visible joints. It is the cheapest way to get a seamless look and it can be moulded into profiles. ARspace suggests avoiding it near a hob, because heat lifts the film and it peels.

Hardware, honestly

We use Hettich as standard. It performs, it is serviceable in Hyderabad, and it does not carry the price of a European badge.

Unbranded hardware is the line most likely to fail in year three, in the drawers you open six times a day. That is the saving nobody enjoys.
